First sign of an Accident
March 8, 2004
While
en-route to work North Boston First Assistant Chief Sean Crotty came across an
incident in progress. Traveling north on Boston State Road from Zimmerman
Road, Asst. Chief Crotty noted a 4 door vehicle that entered his path of travel
with what appeared to be an object protruding from the windshield.
Stopping his vehicle, he noticed a car driven by an elderly female, that
was involved in an accident somewhere.
It was determined she was involved in a collision in the lot of the Mobil
on the Run, in addition to another location. The Asst. Chief immediately
summoned
for EMS units to evaluate the female operator of the vehicle, in
addition to fire units to mitigate the gas leak from the vehicle.
Engine 2 and Rescue 7 responded, as well as Boston EMS and Hamburg
EMS to evaluate the elderly female involved in the accident.
After the hazards were mitigated, units began to pickup. Through the
investigation of the NYSP, it was determined the operator struck a guardrail on
Boston State Road near Meadow Drive, where she also struck a 40 mph sign. The
post for the sign shot through the windshield, directly toward the driver. She
continued to drive south on Boston State Road, when she then ran out of gas, while turning into the Mobil on the Run.
