New Fire Station Fund Drive

November 16- North Boston

In early September, 1,250 letters of support were sent to the residents of the North Boston Fire Company Fire Protection District. Since sending those support packets to the customers we serve, we have received 21% return. Responding to our call have been 228 generous donors who have donated or pledged $44,460.00. That equals just over 44% of our support goal.  Established to help offset costs associated with building a fire station that will serve us for many years to come, our goal has been set at raising $100,000 of support from the community.

Help us to achieve our goal today. See below how you can help. Download your fund drive form today!

In the spring of 2007 the North Boston Volunteer Fire Company plans to break ground for construction of a new fire station.  The new building will be located on Herman Hill Road next to Evans National Bank.

The North Boston Volunteer Fire Company strives to maintain their equipment at a high standard thereby enabling residents of our district to qualify for lower property insurance rates as set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code.

Due to the size of the fire apparatus today the present facilities are no longer adequate to house our equipment, including the new 2006 Toyne/HME 1250 gallon per minute pumper which we took possession of in July.  The new engine complements our 1984 1500 gallon per minute American LaFrance pumper, 1994 1500 gallon per minute R.D. Murray pumper and the 1999 R.D. Murray rescue truck.

The present overhead doors are barely large enough to allow the fire trucks easy access in and out of the station. When pulling out on the pad the front of the engine is almost in Boston State Road.  Below are pictures denoting our space constraints.

The existing hall has safety issues due to its closeness to Boston State Rd. and its proximity to the Boston State Road and RT 277 inter
section. Traffic safety issues include firefighters responding to the hall for manning equipment, equipment pulling out to stage, motorist
confusion  crews man equipment staged on the front pad, concern  of citizens attempting to yield to equipment responding from the pads,
and safety of  personnel and citizens when fire police must block traffic for all equipment to back into apparatus bays.

There is a lack of bay opening height which worsens with ice and  snow
build-up.
Safety is an issue with the limited available staging pad and restricted line of sight of north bound
traffic for exiting vehicles from hall.
Only 1-1\2” clearance between the mirrors of Rescue 7 and bay door and frame.

There is limited access for responding firefighters to gear up between  the truck and the wall that contains their gear and
they must stand clear of area
as apparatus pulls out to stage
on the front pad.
Access is limited to and from the main hall into the apparatus bays. There are no drains in the  right side bay floors to catch water and  snow runoff or draining of fire engine pumps during winter months.

The company has been studying various building designs and layouts for nearly 5 years.  Realizing we cannot afford a
building the size we would prefer to construct, the company is formalizing a building design to serve the community for
years to come.  The estimated cost is $700,000.

Our current budget allows us to commit $30,000 a year for a building to house our equipment.  The remainder needed to meet mortgage payments for the new facility must be raised through additional fundraising activities.  One of these is this request to residents and businesses of our fire protection district to contribute to our building fund.

In 1984 a fund drive was conducted for a new pumper.  Since then the North Boston Volunteer Fire Company has not solicited additional donations.

In seeking support from residents and businesses of our fire district for a new fire station we are offering various degrees of commitments.

1.       Gold Donors – those donors who commit $1,000.00

2.       Silver Donors – those donors who commit $750.00

3.       Bronze Donors – those donors who commit $500.00

Gold, Silver and Bronze donors making pledges and fulfilling their commitment by June1, 2007 will be recognized by recording their name on a plaque displayed in the hall.

While we recognize not everyone is able to contribute to the extent of being a Gold, Silver or Bronze donor, we do urge you to commit to a donation / pledge of your financial ability.  Memorial donations will be recorded in our memorial book.

We respectfully invite your support of our efforts to continue providing you with a quality fire department readily available to respond to your emergency needs.  Your donation is tax deductible.

In responding please follow the link below, printing out the 2006 – 2007 Building Fund Drive Form .  Note on the form pledge dates listed are November 1, 2006; January 15, 2007; April 30, 2007 and June 1, 2007.
