Firefighter Ski Race

Lake Effect Firefighter Ski Race

January 10, 2006

In 2004 the North Boston Fire Company celebrated 100 years of service to it's community, members prepared a different way to start off the next 100 years of service to it's community. Recognizing their community as not just the Boston Hills, rather all of Western New York, the North Boston Fire Company forged a relationship with the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign.
The Annual Lake Effect Firefighter Ski Race was held in conjunction with the 8th Annual Ski Scape at HoliMont Ski Resort on Sunday January 8, 2006. The Ellicottville NY resort hosted the individual race portion of the Ski Scape, as well as the firemen's race held at the resort. Over 80 firefighters competed for bragging rights to walk away with the First Place Trophy for navigating the race course donned in full turnout gear. The teams consisted of 4 firefighters,  weaving through the gates while stretching a 50ft section of 1 3/4" hose. The first one to the bottom wins!

2006 North Boston Fire Company Team #1

Defending champs from Ellicottville Fire Company tried to hold off challengers from their own ranks, Milton Fire Company (Ontario), Webster (Rochester Area), North Boston, Hamburg, West Valley, Brighton (Rochester Area), North Warren/Bradford Township (Northern Pennsylvania), Angola, and Hillcrest Fire Companies. Competition was fierce, as crews demonstrated great teamwork and communication trying to navigate an aggressive race course set up on Snowbird.
Home field advantage proved to be a factor as one of three Ellicottville Fire Company Teams appeared on the podium, a 2nd Place Finisher. One of North Boston Fire Company's 3 teams squeaked the reigning Champions out of the top spot, beating them by 0.18 second; with newcomers from Milton Ontario rounding out the top 3.
Money raised from the 8th Annual Ski Scape / Lake Effect Firefighter Ski Race topped $28,500- with all monies going towards the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign.

Plans are already in the works for the 2007 Lake Effect Firefighters Ski Race to be held with the 9th Annual Ski Scape. For more information, or if you want to get on the email list  email foghorn811@verizon.net
