North Boston Engine 2 Delivered to the Fire Company while celebrating our 90th year of existence, this 1994 RD Murray/Spartan Custom Engine has served the community well. In keeping up with changing technologies, this new engine committee set out on lofty goals, and put together one solid productive vehicle. A vehicle to take us to the 21st Century, Engine 2 was one of very few fire service vehicles delivered in 1994 to any one of the 94 local volunteer companies with a pre-piped foam system. The Foam Pro Class A/B Foam system has been instrumental in the rapid extinguishment of fires. Commonly referred to as the "Pride of the Valley", the chairman attended a seminar in Florida to specifically spec such vehicles. Equipped on a Spartan Chassis, with a Telma Drive-shaft Retarder, this Cummins diesel has little to no problem climbing the terrain in the winter on snow covered roads. Sporting a 1000 gal tank with a 1500 gpm pump, dual 200 ft 1 3/4" cross-lays, 250 ft 1 1/2", 650 ft 2 1/2", and supplemented with 1200 ft of 4" LDH supply line, this Engine is relied on to move water. To assist in pre-plans and emergency notifications, an on-board laptop computer is mounted on the officers side engine counsel, along with a Bullard T3Max Thermal Imager. Available for every firefighter donning the Scott 4.5 SCBAs are Motorola HT750 portables with speaker mikes, Streamlight hand lights, and a wide array of hand tools. On the officers side of the vehicle is the electric ladder lift, that stores ladders up on the high side of the engine, while the ladder lift brings the ladders back down to the firefighters height. |
