100th Anniversary Party-September 25, 2004 Rodney J. Carr was the Master of Ceremonies. Began the program by reading the minutes of the organizational meeting held on September 30, 1904 Rev. Ronald Sprehe of the St. Martin’s Lutheran Church led with the Invocation President Frank Forney gave a toast. Approximately 180 people attended this gala affair. The dinner, which included prime rib, stuffed chicken breasts and carrots and followed by a three layer creamsicle cake was prepared and served by Frontier Catering. Erie County Sheriff’s Office Chief Scott Patronik Town of Boston Supervisor William Eagan Gifts for North Boston were given by Hamburg Fire Department Chief Timothy Moses and Hillcrest Chief Ernest Matthews on behalf of their departments. They both, but separately, gave a short speech expressing their gratitude for our assistance to their companies. Hamburg Fire Control Erie County Dept of Emergency Services Erie County Dept of Emergency Services Chaplain Erie County Sheriff’s Office Town of Boston Town Board Good Shepherd Lutheran Church New York State Senate Office Rodney Carr gave a presentation on the families that have served 100 Years in the fire company. This includes the Schunk Family, the Wittmeyer Family, the Zimmerman Family and the Klein Family. He also gave a presentation on the Seufert Family that has served over 80 years in the fire company Charley Bradl from Patchin was invited to our festivities as his family was members of North Boston since 1908. His grand father joined then and his dad and two uncles joined in 1926. Chuck joined Patchin Fire Company in 1973. President Frank L. Forney III introduced all past presidents that were in attendance. Eleven past presidents were in attendance Auxiliary President Robin Mead introduced the auxiliary past presidents. Chief Thomas Edington introduced the ten past chiefs that were in attendance. The Life Members and the Honorary Members of the Fire Company were also introduced. President Forney awarded the winners of our beard contest. Fortunately none of the winners were women. The Explorers and Natalie Rauch presented the 100 Year Anniversary Banner to the Fire Company. Letters from Rev. Gary Burdick of Faith United Church of Christ was read as well as one from Past member Richard Sherbarth. Herb Klein presented the fire company a ‘Zither” that was used by Fred Frank over 100 Years ago in the North Boston Band. He also read from the original score sheet, a song that was written by Fred Frank. Some pushed Herb to sing it but he reluctantly didn’t. He remembers this song was sung by Fred Frank’s great-granddaughter, Joyce Schindler, in 1948 at the NBFC Installation. The program was closed with a Benediction by Fr. Joseph Bayne of the Erie County Dept. of Emergency Services. After the program, Daryl Gensner played music from his sound system and Frontier Catering had a chocolate fountain and a cappuccino bar available to the guests. |
